INTER ATLANTA FC BLUES

(FORMERLY KNOWN AS AYSA)

Referee Courses

Minimize
AYSA will be conducting several training sessions in August for people interested in becoming referees or for entry level referees interested in upgrading their certification.  In addition, there is an FAQ section on the www.gareferees.com website that addresses many questions related to the R9 and R8 certifications.  Any additional questions can be directed to Blaine Schreiner at dbschreiner@mindspring.com

If you want to take one of these classes, but the date is not convenient for you, it is possible for you to take the course at another club.  All dates and locations for classes are listed on the www.gareferees.com website.

Each individual referee needs to have a separate account on the gareferees website as that is how certifications are tracked.  If you are a parent registering your child for a class please make sure to establish the account in your child’s name not yours!  Those families with multiple children refereeing will need an account for each child.

The upper level courses are being held at Martha Brown United Methodist Church located at 468 Moreland Ave.  The church is two blocks south of I-20 on Moreland Avenue on the east side of the road at the intersection of Moreland and Metropolitan Avenue.

Here are the classes that will be offered:

Club Referee – This class is for younger players that are interested in refereeing, but are not ready for the R9 certification.  Completing this class allows you to start with games in the U7 and U8 age levels.  This class will be held at Arizona Avenue on Sunday, August 28th from 1:00PM to 3:00PM.  The class is limited to 20 participants that must register prior to the class.  You can register by sending your name, address, and birth date to Blaine Schreiner at dbschreiner@mindspring.com.  Participants in this class should be at least nine years of age.

R9 Entry Level Referee - This class is the entry level class for USSF certified referees. Completing this course allows you to be a referee on U14 or lower recreational games or an assistant referee on U14 or lower recreational, select and academy games.  You must attend all 9 hours of the class, 3 on Thursday evening and 6 hours on Saturday.  The class will be held at Martha Brown United Methodist Church on Thursday and Saturday, August 18th and 20th.  You can register on the web by going to www.gareferees.com.  From this page, click on “Sign up for Classes”; once this page loads, click on “Entry Course (R9)” which will be in blue type about halfway down the page.  From this page you will want to select the 8/18/10 date at Atlanta Youth Soccer Association and follow the instructions provided to register for the class.  While registration is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended as there is a class minimum and maximum that must be observed.  There are no stated age minimums for this class, however the ability to successfully complete the course and the number of available games increases as the age of the aspiring referee increases from 10 to 14 years or older.

Bridge Course from R9 to R8 – This class is for those referees that have successfully completed the R9 class and want to upgrade their certification.  Obtaining the R8 certification allows you to be a referee or assistant referee at any youth soccer game from U19 or lower.  You must attend all 9 hours of the class, 3 hours on Thursday evening and 6 hours on Saturday.  The class will be held at Martha Brown United Methodist Church on Thursday and Saturday, August 25th and 27th.  You can register on the web by going to www.gareferees.com.  From this page, click on “Sign up for Classes”; once this page loads, click on “Upgrade to R8 from R9 (Bridge) Course” which will be in blue type near the bottom of the page.  From this page you will want to select the 8/25/10 date at Atlanta and follow the instructions provided to register for the class.  While registration is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended as there is a class minimum and maximum that must be observed.

Annual Recertification Course for R9 and R8 – This class is for R9 and R8 referees that need their annual recertification.  Successful completion of this course will certify the referee thru 2012.  Referees that have been certified thru 2011 (Your badge says 2011) can still referee in the fall season without taking this course, but would need to complete the course prior to the spring season starting.  Referees that have been certified thru 2010 or earlier need to complete this course in order to referee during the fall season.  You must attend all 5 hours of the class which will be held at Martha Brown United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 21st.  You can register on the web by going to www.gareferees.com.  From this page, click on “Sign up for Classes”; once this page loads, click on “Annual Recertification Course for R9 and R8” which will be in blue type near the top of the page.  From this page you will want to select the 8/21/10 date at Atlanta Youth Soccer Association and follow the instructions provided to register for the class.  While registration is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended as there is a class minimum and maximum that must be observed.
