The U-13 boys finally pulled through all the way. In the last three tournaments the team participated in, the team made it to the finals, but kept falling short, losing in PK’s or in another dramatic fashion. Well, the boys finally won.
We started off strong and dominant beating Atlanta Fire 2:0. We kept possession of the ball and kept creating chances over the flanks, beating AFU’s defenders and never stopped with the crosses. In the second game, we fell short to CFC Red Star despite out-playing them in every aspect of the game. Luck was not on our side that evening and we lost 1:0. We created many chances in the second game, hitting the crossbar and the post a total of four times but it just wasn’t enough as we couldn’t get the ball the cross the goal line. Despite the loss, we raised the bar and played even better than in the first game.
We made it through the first round as the second placed team out of our bracket and had to face the first placed team out of the other bracket in the Premier division next. TSC came out dominant and took the lead early on as they broke through our defensive line rather easily in the very first minute of the game. It took us about 10-15 minutes to shake off the goal. We created chances over the flanks with some beautiful through passes from our center midfielders. As the game was getting closer to the end, we kept raising the bar until we finally equalized with a screamer from about 22 yards out. The game could not be decided in regulation time and we had to go into PK shoot outs once again… Our goal keeper Jack Hudson made three phenomenal saves to take our boys to the finals to face none other than CFC Red Star again.
Despite some minor injuries and dings, the boys were ready for revenge. CFC Red Star was not going to beat us again. And they didn’t. Our boys came out strong and confident once again. Plays were being built up beautifully from the back. We continued to utilize our strong wing play. Our first goal game from a beautiful cross from the right side to connect with one of our forwards on a even more beautiful header. The game developed even more in our favor and it was soon noticeable that Red Star was no match for us. We scored another beautiful goal from 9 yards out that resulted in beautiful combination play and unselfishness. Well done boys and good luck in the spring!
